Tired of Upwork?
Updated October 2026
If you market for a living, you know the Upwork routine: buy Connects, write proposal after proposal, compete with dozens of other bids, and hope a client replies. It works for some people. For a lot of good marketers it's a part-time job just to get hired.
How Upwork works for freelancers (October 2026)
- Paying to apply. Proposals cost Connects, credits sold at $0.15 each, and most jobs take several per proposal.
- A service fee on what you earn, currently variable up to 15% and shown when you send a proposal.
- Crowded jobs. Popular postings collect a long list of proposals, which pushes prices down.
Fees change; check Upwork's pricing for current numbers.
How Shoutyard is different
- Sending an offer is free. No credits, no subscription.
- At most 5 offers per gig, so your odds are real and early, specific offers win.
- Fixed price, one deliverable. You say what you'll deliver, by when, for how much.
- Paid before you start. The builder pays when they pick you; the money is held and released when they approve, or automatically 5 days after you deliver.
- One fee: 15% from your side when you get paid. How fees work.
Where Upwork is still better
Upwork is enormous: far more jobs, every category, long-term contracts. Shoutyard is small and focused on one thing, getting new apps their first users. If that's your kind of work, the gigs here are easier to win.
Where to find these gigs
Shoutyard is the distribution marketplace for vibe coders. Builders post their app and what they need; you send a short fixed-price offer. Free to join.
